Specific Need

Main Level Updates at Mary Cotton Public Library

As part of a series of updates and improvements, MCPL is updating the main level of the library in phases over several years. The Library Board of Trustee's has engaged an architecture firm to assist with the space planning and design. A Board committee will oversee the project and The Friends, who have been assisting the library with special projects since 2003, are excited to help make this vision come to life!

These main level updates address:

• better utilization of space 

• improved organization of materials

• modern, more private individual and group work/study spaces

• streamlined business center resources area (printing, copying, scanning, faxing, etc.)

• engaging and more accessible display space for new books, special collections, periodicals and digital media

• comfortable soft seating throughout for reading, studying, visiting, etc.

• brighter, enhanced lighting to compliment the original Art Deco light fixtures throughout the main floor.

• flexible soft seating area geared for tweens through adults (relaxing, using digital devices, reading, socializing, etc.)

Guided by the responses from the library's 2021 Community Survey and the Library Board's Strategic Plan, these thoughtful, intentional updates will help the library continue to meet the ever-evolving needs of our patrons and our community, creating impact for years to come.

Mission

The Friends of the Mary Cotton Public Library do for the library what individual friends do for one another; they come forth with ideas, time, advice, effort, encouragement, and financial support.

Profile

Established in 2003 by local community members, the Friends of the Mary Cotton Public Library is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that exists to support the library’s overall growth and development. Friends seek to encourage literacy, lifelong learning, and increase community access to information and knowledge. The organization works to enhance the library’s resources by addressing library needs, sponsoring special programs and services as well as assisting in the raising of funds for large projects.
