Nemaha County Community Health Services

Specific Need

This year we have two specific funding goals. The first is our second annual Community Baby Shower. The Community Baby Shower is an event open to any expecting or new parents in Nemaha County. Parents are able to visit with a number of local organizations and agencies that provide services for new families and receive education on a variety of topics that affect new parents. Last year, nearly 50 families from around the county were served. Our baby shower was a huge success thanks to generous donors through Give to Grow and local community donors that made it possible. This year, we hope to grow our baby shower to a larger space to accomodate even more local resources for families. We hope to provide high quality door prizes such as car seats, pack and plays and other safety gear. We would also like to be able to provide a goody bag filled with parenting essentials and educational resources to each family that participates in the community baby shower.

Our second funding need is to continue to support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Initiative. The Dolly Parton Imagination Library provides children ages 0-5 with a free, age appropriate book mailed to their home each month. There are no income requirements to participate and no cost to families. The cost of this program is about $25 per year for each child. We are fortunate that a grant from the Kansas Children's Cabinet is subsidizing half of the cost for each child, bringing our cost to $12.50 per child. We began this program with a goal of reaching around 300 children in five years. We exceeded this number in the first two months of the program and currently have over 320 participants. Any and all funds not used for our Community Baby Shower will go directly to helping support this literacy program for the children of Nemaha County.

Mission

Nemaha County Community Health Services promotes and protects the health of people and our local community where we live, learn, work and play through evidence-based practices, education, promotion and prevention.

Profile

Nemaha County Community Health Services (NCCHS) is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides community health programs to Nemaha County residents of all ages. Programs include immunizations, child health assessments/Kan-Be-Healthy, Women Infant and Children (WIC), in-home care services, breastfeeding assistance and a satellite office for Kansas Children with Special Health Care Needs. Public health saves money, improves our quality of life, helps children thrive and reduces human suffering.

Our community health staff are dedicated to providing quality services right here in Nemaha County. We live in your communities, shop at your businesses and cheer on the hometown teams. We have children at local schools, spouses working in the community, and friends and families who benefit from community health services. In short, we have a vested interest in the health and well-being of our community.

No children are denied health services at NCCHS due to a parent’s inability to pay. We take pride in our ability to reach out and meet the needs of all our community members when they need us. We serve all ages and stages of life.
